Professor Brice Gayet, MD, PhD obtained a degree in general anatomy and organogenesis in 1977 followed by a medical degree in 1980. He then obtained a diploma in computer science from the Jussieu Faculty of Science at the University of Paris. He was at the forefront of laparoscopy in the end-1980s and with Pr Guy Vallancien helped to create the European School of Surgery in Paris which is dedicated to training surgeons in laparoscopy.

Dr Gayet is Professor at University Paris Descartes and was Professor of Anatomy before becoming Professor of Digestive Surgery and the Head of the Department of Digestive Pathology at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, France.

In 1992 he created this inter-disciplinary department by integrating gastroenterologists, endoscopists and surgeons specialized in treating patients with digestive diseases. This department has become world renowned in multi-disciplinary disease management that focused on treating patients with complex gastrointestinal (700 proctectomies, 400 esophagectomies by laparoscopy) and hepatopancreatobiliary diseases (over 450 hepatectomies and 200 pancreatectomies by laparoscopy).

Additionally, Professor Gayet is the president of the French Society of Endoscopic Surgery (SFCE) and the past president of the College de Medecine des Hopitaux de Paris, and has been involved with health care at the national level by working as a councilor to the ministry of health in France, Bernard Kouchner. He is a current member of the University National Council (CNU).

Pr Gayet is the author or coauthor of more than 325 publications including 180 original articles. He has given over 750 presentations or lectures in his career and has published 110 videos on laparoscopic techniques.

Since 2010, he is a permanent member of ISIR the robotic institute of the University Paris VI (UPMC).
